The Dry Heeves

Bio Break

The Dry Heeves are cultural analysts who use music as their dissemination medium of choice. Under the direction of C. MacDonald, J. D. MacNeil, K. MacNeil, M. Gallant and V. Dog, The Dry Heeves hail from Meat Cove, Cape Breton (Canada). Their meditatively eccentric compositions can be overwhelming at first, but once assimilated, they become invigorating, cleansing, genuinely hilarious and frequently gratifying.

Welcome to a new Theatre of the Absurd !

In late 2001 they released a retrospective of early material entitled Mysterium Iniquitatis. In August 2002 The Dry Heeves were honoured with a spot on Crunch Fly Records' From Far and Wide compilation CD. Around the same time the band also released a special CD EP of new material called Radio Prog. As a tribute to their life-long interest in shortwave listening, the EP was targeted for eastern Europe and is not currently available domestically.

In September 2002 The Dry Heeves released a full-length CD of new material, Mockba Rockba, available only in Russia. In October 2002 the band released a CD EP entitled Mektoub !, featuring cuts from the upcoming album as well as bonus tracks exclusive to this release. On January 1, 2003, the full-length album, Everything's Gone Pseudo, was officially released. In September 2004 the full-length electronica masterpiece, Music For Psych Wards, was officially released.

In 2005 they embarked on a series of remixes for such artists as Laurent Garnier, Tim Gerwing, the Chemical Brothers and Bjork. In September 2005 the experimental net album, ... and I'll Call Rusty, was unveiled. In October 2006 an EP for the francophone world, Napoléon Bandeàpart, was unleashed as well as an EP for the Germanic world, Essen Sie Scheiße.

2007 began with Canada Calling, an EP for Sound Aid’s fundraising project devoted to help cure world hunger through music. And just in time for the Ides of March, 420 arrived, featuring 17 bloodcurdling rock, pop, punk and metal classics. Then in late 2008, the lads released Bubblegumma, an EP of straightforward pop, rock, synth pop, and soft electronica. And most recently in 2009, the group released an EP collection of odds and ends, Dinner With Bozo the Clown.

A splendid time is guaranteed for all !

"The Dry Heeves take musical bits from cultures around the world, and try to find ways to put them together in which no one else would. Some tracks are intended to be pure silliness, but others take on a more serious feel and attempt to make strong statements. It gives a breadth and depth to what they are doing in an experimental genre that is often overlooked. Shifting from jungle, to hip-hop, to folk, to metal, to ambient intermingled with touches of noise, Everything’s Gone Pseudo takes the listener on a bizarre journey that is laughable, disturbing, and strange."
